2026: wanna lunch?

wannalunch is dead.

Update, 2026: wannalunch was resurrected by AI.
Apparently AI is very good at unfinished projects.

At the first Garage48, Tallinn, 16–18 April 2010, a large team of us built wannalunch. The idea arrived through Oliver Wihler, from Keith Ferrazzi’s Never Eat Alone. Most people in offices already have one hour for lunch. Why not use it to meet someone new, discuss something interesting, and occasionally accidentally start a company?

I came up with the name, registered the domain, and we actually organized a few lunches. Then everyone went back to their lives. At a later Garage48 I gave a presentation with a slide that simply said: ONE HOUR LUNCH IS DEAD.

Sixteen years later it is working again. No accounts. No feed. No recommendation engine. The invitation lives in the URL, so it works without a database. The product is the ritual, not the platform.

Make a lunch

One question. One place. One hour. Then you send a URL. That is the whole product.

It lasts one hour. That was the original constraint.
